ServiceTitan vs FieldEdge for an HVAC shop (2026): what each costs, which agreement module holds up, and where the four-van line falls
- Deepsel is our product. It appears in one labeled section near the end, it is not the answer to the ServiceTitan-vs-FieldEdge question, and it integrates with neither of them.
- Neither vendor publishes a price. Every dollar figure below is tagged as an analyst estimate, an owner report (linked and dated), or vendor-published (the package structure and what each package gates). Both pricing pages were re-read on September 7, 2026.
- Every claim about what breaks links to the thread, review, release note or help article it came from.
ServiceTitan vs FieldEdge is a choice between the two HVAC-native platforms that both refuse to publish prices and both ship a real service-agreement module. Reported cost: FieldEdge about $100-150 per user a month plus a $500-6,000 setup fee; ServiceTitan an estimated $245-500 per technician plus $5,000-50,000 implementation. Under four trucks FieldEdge is the affordable one, and neither is cheap. Past ten trucks, ServiceTitan's depth starts to earn its price.
FieldEdge is the older company by a wide margin: founded in 1980 in Fort Myers, it shipped Electronic Service Control (ESC) in 1998, claims the first full QuickBooks integration in field service software in 1999, launched the cloud product called FieldEdge in 2016, and says it serves over 40,000 users.21 ServiceTitan is the Nasdaq-listed company that closed its fiscal year on January 31, 2026 with about 10,800 active customers and $961 million in revenue.22 Same trades, same demo circuit, and a very different size of shop in mind.
The same shop asks this question at the same moment, too: it just outgrew ESC, Wintac or a spreadsheet, and it wants better agreements. A 9-tech owner on r/ProHVACR in November 2025, word for word: "I am looking for better agreements... I did do a Service Titan demo - seems amazing but onboarding seems daunting. They are quoting $3800 to migrate ESC and then $345/mo per tech for 2 years. I have a demo setup with FieldEdge next week."10 This page is the homework for that demo.

Both columns are quote-only, so the price rows are ranges from analysts and owners, not rate cards. Everything else comes from the two pricing pages, the two help centers, the app stores and the review sites, all checked September 7, 2026. The last row is the one this site exists for.

ServiceTitan vs FieldEdge pricing: what a 3-truck and a 6-truck shop would pay
FieldEdge costs roughly a third to a half of ServiceTitan at the same head count. Analysts put FieldEdge at $100-150 per office user and $100-125 per tech a month, and ServiceTitan at $245-500 per technician.3, 6 The gap widens in year one, because ServiceTitan's implementation fee starts about where FieldEdge's ends.
The two bill differently, which matters as much as the rate. FieldEdge sells office seats and mobile licenses separately, includes 2, 4 or 6 mobile licenses by tier, and its FAQ says the price depends on "how many technicians or employees are on your team."2 ServiceTitan prices per technician, and the demo form's question about a full-time office employee is how the office gets priced.1 Two real bills from one r/ProHVACR thread in June 2024 anchor the ranges: $350 a month on FieldEdge for one office login and three techs, and "3 office access accounts and 6 techs, we pay about $1,800/month" on ServiceTitan.9 A November 2025 ServiceTitan quote for a 9-tech shop was $345 per tech a month on a two-year term, plus $3,800 to migrate from ESC.10
| Shop | ServiceTitan (estimate) | FieldEdge (estimate) |
|---|---|---|
| 3 trucks (owner runs calls, 2 techs, 1 office user): software per month | $735-1,500 for 3 techs; $1,200-1,500 on The Works, the memberships package3 | $400-525 (3 mobile licenses at $100-125, 1 office user at $100-150)6, 7 |
| 3 trucks: year one, with implementation | $13,800-33,000 ($8,800-18,000 software plus $5,000-15,000 setup) | $5,300-12,300 ($4,800-6,300 software plus $500-6,000 setup) |
| 6 trucks (6 techs, 2 office users): software per month | $1,470-3,000; the real bill above ($1,800 for 6 techs and 3 office users) lands inside it9 | $800-1,050 (6 mobile licenses, 2 office users) |
| 6 trucks: year one, with implementation | $22,600-51,000 | $10,100-18,600 |
| Not in either column | Card processing (quoted), Pro Products (Marketing Pro alone is estimated at $500-2,000+ a month), a consultant if you hire one3, 4 | Card processing (2.7-3.4% reported), add-ons at $19-99 a month each, training beyond onboarding at about $150 an hour7, 40 |
For scale: the same 3-truck shop on Jobber Connect or Housecall Pro Essentials spends about $1,800 a year on software, with no setup fee and no term. The line items behind every range above, including the fees neither pricing page mentions, are on the ServiceTitan pricing and FieldEdge pricing pages.
QuickBooks: FieldEdge syncs in real time, ServiceTitan wants to be the ledger
FieldEdge's QuickBooks integration is its founding feature, runs in real time, and is on every plan for both QuickBooks Online and Desktop. ServiceTitan integrates with both editions too, but by batch export through a connection your CSM enables, and it is built to be the system of record itself.
FieldEdge's claim is specific: "Now we have the only real-time sync between QuickBooks and a field service management software."24 The pricing table ticks QuickBooks Online and Desktop on Select, Premier and Elite alike, and warehouse inventory (Elite) runs on QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise.2 Agreement money posts to a Service Agreement Reserve account in QuickBooks, with a June 2026 knowledge-base article on the per-customer report: the money you already collected for visits you still owe, visible to your accountant without a journal entry.25 (One caveat from a June 2026 comparison: some FieldEdge reviewers report sync errors and duplicate entries.41)
ServiceTitan's QuickBooks Online integration is "available to all ServiceTitan customers. Contact your Customer Success Manager (CSM) to enable" it, and it works by exporting invoices, payments, expenses and sales tax in batches. QuickBooks Desktop connects through the ServiceTitan Web Connector.23 That design assumes an office that batches, posts and exports. A former admin at a $40 million HVAC company, October 2025: "The license fees are crazy high, and you'll need to add at least 1-2 back end staff to handle all the extra work ST throws at you to make an accurate financial statement."32 The owner on hvac-talk who evaluated both in 2018 opened with "I do plan to keep quickbooks for accounting and have no interest in doing my accounting differently," and picked FieldEdge.38 If that's you, it's the shortest version of this page.
Service agreements vs memberships: both modules are real, and both leave the office a list
FieldEdge includes service agreements on every plan, Basic on Select and Advanced on Premier and Elite. ServiceTitan's Customizable Memberships sit on The Works only, its top package.1, 2 Both post visits automatically and bill cards on file. Neither keeps a per-unit count of visits owed against visits delivered, and each has a documented way to lose a member quietly.
In FieldEdge, an agreement is sold from the truck and carries two schedules, a maintenance schedule and a billing schedule; the visits post to the dispatch board as work orders a set number of days ahead. When a saved card on a recurring agreement is declined, FieldEdge sends the customer a Payment Declined message automatically, and a Credit Card Expiring notice goes out 30 days before the next invoice.26 The only Advanced-specific feature FieldEdge names is Multiple Agreements for customers with more than one piece of equipment.43 Then the tripwire: an office manager at a shop with "90% of our service... dependent on our maintenance contracts" wrote in August 2024 that agreements "switch to inactive if the maintenance isn't scheduled by the set reminder date," dates change on their own, and saves error and rewrite dates.27 The August 19, 2026 release notes were still fixing inactive agreement links that looked active.28
In ServiceTitan, a membership generates recurring service events up to a year ahead, and the help center is exact about what they are: "The date of a recurring event lets you know when to schedule a service. You set the actual service date when you book the event into a job." Memberships expire on their end date with events still open unless support enables Keep Membership Active Until the Last Event. If the member's preferred card fails, "payment processing fails," and the invoice waits in Billing History for someone to open the tab. The automatic card updater, Membership Renewal Protection, carries "additional charges."29 It is still the most complete module in the trade. The contractor running about 2,500 members on it draws the line himself: "I wouldn't make the jump to service Titan until you've got at least four vans on the road with 300 to 500 maintenance agreements."30
The module-by-module walkthroughs, with the workarounds shops use on each, are in FieldEdge service agreements, explained and ServiceTitan memberships, explained.
Onboarding and the contract: five weeks vs six weeks to six months, and what you sign
FieldEdge implementation runs about five weeks and $500-6,000, on a term that auto-renews for 12 months unless you cancel in writing 60 days ahead. ServiceTitan implementation is $5,000-15,000 for a small company and took one 3-tech shop six weeks and larger shops months, on a 12-month minimum that some owners say turned out to be two years.
FieldEdge's paper is readable, which counts for something. The Terms of Service define an Initial License Period on your order form, automatic 12-month renewals, 60 days' written notice, and an early-termination fee of the monthly fees times the months remaining. Setup delays on your side can be billed on a time-and-materials basis, and the subscription clock starts during setup rather than at go-live.11, 7
ServiceTitan's onboarding is the thing its own customers warn about. The 3-tech HVAC owner: "800/month and the onboarding alone took 6 weeks."31 A new customer in October 2025: "We signed up for service titan over two months ago and are still not live. Our first training agent quit the company mid way."35 A May 2026 Capterra reviewer: "I was not informed I was signing a 2-year contract."12 Neither product has a free trial.2, 12 Whichever you pick, get the term length, the notice window and the go-live date on the order form.
The mobile app: the one place FieldEdge loses on the numbers
Techs rate both apps poorly, and FieldEdge's history is worse. On September 7, 2026 the App Store shows ServiceTitan Field at 3.4 stars from 4,801 ratings, FieldEdge Mobile 2.0 at 3.5 from 34, and the older FieldEdge Mobile 1.0 at 1.8 from 423. On Google Play, ServiceTitan Field is 3.1 from 616 ratings and FieldEdge Mobile 2.0 has no score yet.15
The complaints are concrete. A FieldEdge office user in August 2025: the cloud sync is "constantly glitching between the users in the office and the users in the field... My technicians regularly have to clear their cache and go back in and force a price book download."36 ServiceTitan replaced its tech app with one called Field in 2025, and in the r/HVAC thread titled "New ServiceTitan app is a downgrade" the reply "Can't be as bad as field edge" got the answer "Nothing is."35 One structural difference from the 2020 hvac-talk thread still applies: FieldEdge lets you put installers on the dispatch board and bill from the office without buying them a mobile seat, while "Servicetitan makes you pay for every person on the dispatch board regardless."38
Integrations, online booking and support
ServiceTitan has a public developer portal and a Zapier app, but Zapier needs The Works package and ServiceTitan doesn't officially support it. FieldEdge's API is reachable only through its partner program, and there is no FieldEdge app on Zapier. Both offer a customer portal for payments and appointment requests; true online booking costs extra on both.
ServiceTitan's help center, updated July 2026: "To use the ServiceTitan Zapier integration, you must be on the Works or Legacy package," and the integration "is not officially supported by ServiceTitan and is made available on an 'as is' basis."17 Its Customer Portal lets customers view invoices, service history and request appointments, with account configuration required; requests land under Bookings for the office to book. Real-time online booking is Scheduling Pro, a Pro product you request a demo for.19 Support is live chat and email around the clock, with phone hours on weekdays and Saturdays.16 Owners are split on how deep it goes: "the tech support doesn't go deep enough for the price point they charge," from a shop three years in.33
FieldEdge describes its developer portal as partner-only: "Through our partner program, we work with a wide network of affiliate and integration partners." Its partner page names QuickBooks, Podium, FleetSharp and ADP, a 2022 post counts "more than 40 partners," and Zapier's app directory has no FieldEdge page.18, 45 The Consumer Management Portal lets customers pay invoices, accept quotes and "submit requests for service"; it's "Call for pricing" on Select and Premier and included on Elite.2, 20 Support follows the tier: chat on Select, email or phone on Premier, a dedicated rep on Elite.2 FieldEdge advertises a 92% chat satisfaction rating and a one-minute average wait.42 Users are harsher. The r/hvacadvice office manager with the inactive-agreement problem said of her rep, "They have not been very helpful,"27 and a tech whose shop moved to FieldEdge, November 2025: "I found their training and support to be shit and the app to be clunky af and inconsistent."37
What owners who have run both say
Both directions, dated and linked. Where the original post has since been removed, the comments are live and the links go to them.
- Went to ServiceTitan and came back, February 2023: "Stared with field edge, then switched to service titan, realized what we missed out on and went back to field edge. Lol"33
- Five months on ServiceTitan, same thread: "I like it way better than FieldEdge (formerly CoolFront). I think it has a lot more flexibility and is more customizable than FieldEdge."33
- Tried the move, February 2024: "We tried to transition to service titan and it was a total nightmare. Instantly went back to field edge."34
- Eight months on ServiceTitan, October 2025: "I never thought I'd say this but boy do i miss FieldEdge…even with all its glitches and lockups"35
- Same thread, the other way: "I've used many of them over the years; Service Titan was/is better than House Call and Field Edge."35
- August 2025, from a FieldEdge office: "FieldEdge is horrible and You should either pay the extra to get service Titan which admittedly is annoying but actually works or find someone else."36
- Capterra, office manager who left ServiceTitan, March 2020: "FieldEdge at the time seemed most comparable to ServiceTitan and was far more reasonable with cost for us since we are smaller."13
Read them together and a pattern holds. The people happy on ServiceTitan have an office that runs it. The people who went back to FieldEdge didn't, and found ServiceTitan's setup heavier than the shop could carry. A ServiceTitan user in 2019 said it plainly: "If your company is not designed to run their way (flat rate/tiered pricing/upfront pricing/memberships/commission) you will likely be disappointed."44
Which should an HVAC shop choose, ServiceTitan or FieldEdge?
Decision rules, by truck count and agreement count. There's no single winner, only a winner for each shop.
- 1-3 trucks? Neither, in most cases. FieldEdge's reported bill at this size is $400-525 a month plus setup, ServiceTitan's is $735-1,500 plus $5,000-15,000, and both assume office staff you don't have. Jobber Connect or Housecall Pro Essentials at $149 a month does dispatch and invoicing for a fraction of it. Pick FieldEdge Select only if agreements must live inside the dispatch system and the books live in QuickBooks Desktop.
- 4-9 trucks, QuickBooks stays, 100-500 agreements? FieldEdge Premier. Advanced agreements, four mobile licenses, multi-option quotes and phone support, at a third to a half of ServiceTitan's price. Ask the rep to show a two-unit customer on both agreement screens before you pick the tier, and calendar the 60-day notice date the day you sign.
- 4-9 trucks, heading for 15, with a dispatcher and a full-time admin? ServiceTitan The Works. Budget the implementation and possibly a consultant. Memberships, commission tracking and reporting are the reason to pay, and they only pay back if someone owns the system full time.
- 10+ trucks or $3 million in revenue? ServiceTitan. That's where Projul draws the line too.3
- Commercial or time-and-materials heavy? Demo both on your ugliest invoice. A FieldEdge user in 2018 found parts and PO costs disappearing from T&M invoices, and a commercial contractor said in October 2025, "Service titan is super resi focused. The app didn't work for us."39, 35
Either way: what to check about maintenance agreements before you sign
Both modules are real, so four questions on either demo cover it, because neither help center answers them plainly. Does the system keep a running count of visits owed against visits delivered, per unit, per plan year? What happens the day a saved card is declined, and what does the card updater cost? Can an agreement expire, or go inactive, while a paid visit is still owed? And can the office export the whole agreement book, with equipment and billing history, in one file? Get the answers in writing, then walk the FieldEdge inactive list or the ServiceTitan Billing History tab weekly until you've watched them work.
This is the part I have a product in, so weigh it accordingly. Deepsel is an agreement ledger that runs beside the FSM you keep, built for the 1-4 truck shops these two price out: plan, tier, covered equipment, card on file, visits owed vs delivered per unit. It charges renewals on the card with retries and flags the ones that stay failed, emails every member who's due a booking reminder each spring and fall (texts on Pro), and warns you before a paid visit expires. Starter is $79 a month, Pro $159 (coming soon), unlimited users. The integrated FSMs are Jobber (Starter imports your list and its reminder emails carry the Jobber booking link; Pro syncs through the API and writes booked visits back as jobs) and Housecall Pro (reminders carry HCP's own booking link, native sync planned). There is no ServiceTitan or FieldEdge integration today: you import an export, Deepsel runs the agreements, and the office keys booked visits back into the FSM as normal jobs. If you're at four-plus trucks and buying either platform for its module, you don't need this. Plans are on the pricing page; the pick-by-shop-size roundup is best HVAC maintenance agreement software.
14-day free trial. No credit card required. Still deciding? The free agreement-tracking spreadsheet works beside any FSM.Frequently asked questions
Is FieldEdge or ServiceTitan better for HVAC?
Truck count decides it, not trade. Both were built for HVAC and plumbing shops with dispatch, flat-rate pricebooks, QuickBooks sync and an agreement module. FieldEdge fits 4-9 truck shops that keep the books in QuickBooks and want agreements inside the dispatch system. ServiceTitan fits shops with a dispatcher and a full-time admin, which in practice means ten or more trucks. Under four trucks, owners who have run either say it's more software than the shop can feed.
Is FieldEdge cheaper than ServiceTitan?
Yes, by roughly half to two thirds at the same head count. Analysts put FieldEdge at $100-150 per office user and $100-125 per tech a month with a $500-6,000 setup fee; ServiceTitan at $245-500 per technician a month with $5,000-50,000 implementation. One HVAC owner reported $350 a month on FieldEdge for one office login and three techs in June 2024. A ServiceTitan shop in the same thread pays about $1,800 a month for three office users and six techs.
Which has better service agreements, FieldEdge or ServiceTitan?
ServiceTitan's membership module is deeper, but it's on The Works only, the top package. FieldEdge includes agreements on every plan (Basic on Select, Advanced on Premier and Elite), posts visits to the dispatch board and messages the customer automatically when a saved card is declined. Each has a hole: FieldEdge agreements can flip inactive when a visit misses its reminder date, and ServiceTitan memberships expire on their end date with visits still owed unless support enables a hold. Neither counts visits owed against delivered per unit.
Does FieldEdge or ServiceTitan work better with QuickBooks?
FieldEdge, if QuickBooks stays your ledger. Its QuickBooks Online and Desktop sync is on every plan, the company claims the only real-time sync between QuickBooks and a field service platform, and agreement money posts to a Service Agreement Reserve account. ServiceTitan integrates with both editions too, by batch export through a CSM-enabled connection, and is built to be the system of record itself. A former admin at a $40 million HVAC company said it needed one to two extra back-office staff for accurate financials.
Can you switch from FieldEdge to ServiceTitan, or back?
Yes, and people go both ways. A 9-tech shop on FieldEdge's legacy ESC product was quoted $3,800 for the ServiceTitan migration plus $345 per tech a month on a two-year term in November 2025. Several r/HVAC commenters tried ServiceTitan and went back to FieldEdge; others left FieldEdge for ServiceTitan and stayed. Either direction means rebuilding the pricebook and re-entering agreements, so export your agreement list first and keep a copy the migration can't lose.
Does either one have a free trial or a month-to-month plan?
No to both, for both products. FieldEdge says it skips the free trial because new members do better with guided onboarding, and its terms auto-renew for 12-month periods unless you give written notice 60 days ahead, with an early-termination fee equal to the remaining months. ServiceTitan's Capterra listing says free trial not available, three 2026 analyses report a 12-month minimum, and one May 2026 reviewer says he signed a two-year contract without realizing it.
Is ServiceTitan worth it over FieldEdge for a 3-truck shop?
The owners who have run it say no. A contractor with about 2,500 members on ServiceTitan puts the line at four vans and 300-500 agreements, and a 3-tech HVAC owner dropped it after six weeks of onboarding at $800 a month. At three trucks the reported year-one bill is $13,800-33,000 for ServiceTitan against $5,300-12,300 for FieldEdge, which already includes the agreement module on its cheapest plan.
