Jobber vs Housecall Pro (2026): the price gaps, the feature gates, and what owners say after switching
- Deepsel is our product. It appears in one labeled section near the end, and it is not the answer to the Jobber-vs-Housecall-Pro question.
- Every price was checked on the vendor's own pricing page on September 7, 2026. Every feature gate comes from the vendor's help center, linked.
- Every claim about what breaks, and every quote about what works, links to the Reddit comment, review site or help article it came from, with a date.
Jobber and Housecall Pro cost the same at the tier most 2-4 truck shops buy ($149 a month, billed annually) and split everywhere else. Jobber is cheaper for a solo operator ($29 vs $59), charges $29 for each extra user where Housecall Pro charges $100, and opens its API on every plan. Housecall Pro includes online booking and review requests on every plan, sells options on estimates, and syncs with QuickBooks Desktop as well as Online. Neither one runs maintenance agreements properly.
These two sell to the same shop. Housecall Pro says 200,000-plus pros across 50-plus trades use it;15 Jobber passed 100,000 customers in May 2026.16 Contractors ask "which one" on Reddit every few weeks, and the honest answers split on features, never on one being bad. The fairest one-liner I found came from someone who spent a year and a half working at Housecall Pro: "If you're looking for more customizability, I would explore jobber, but if you're looking for something out of the box to just work, I would go with Housecall pro."25 The rest of this page is the evidence behind that sentence, plus the one thing both of them leave to your spreadsheet.

Pricing compared: same $149 middle tier, very different seat prices
At the tier a 2-4 truck shop buys, the sticker is identical: Jobber Connect for up to 5 users is $149 a month billed annually ($199 month to month), and Housecall Pro Essentials for 5 users is $149 ($189 month to month).1, 2 Everything on either side of that tier is where the money separates.
Below it, Jobber wins. Core is $29 a month for one user against Basic at $59, though Core has no automated reminders and no QuickBooks sync (it does have online booking), and Basic has booking but no QuickBooks either.1, 2, 4 Above it, Jobber wins harder. Every Jobber plan card now reads "Add users for $29/mo each."1 Housecall Pro charges $100 per extra user on Essentials and $75 on Max.2 So the sixth login costs $29 on one and $100 on the other, and by the seventh, Housecall Pro shops are usually looking at Max ($299, 8 users) because it's cheaper than Essentials plus seats.
Here's the honest math for a 3-truck HVAC shop: an owner who runs calls, two techs and an office manager, four users, doing about $700,000 a year with $420,000 of it collected by card. Line items are on the Jobber pricing breakdown and the Housecall Pro pricing breakdown.
| Line item | Jobber (Connect, up to 5 users, annual) | Housecall Pro (Essentials, 5 users, annual) |
|---|---|---|
| Software, per month | $149 ($199 month to month) | $149 ($189 month to month) |
| Software, per year | $1,788 | $1,788 |
| Google review requests | +$39/mo (Reviews add-on), $468/yr5 | Included2 |
| Card processing on $420,000 | 2.9% + 30¢ on about 1,400 invoices: about $12,600/yr | 2.59% floor rate: about $10,900/yr (keyed-in and invoice payments run higher; the rate card isn't published) |
| Sixth user | +$29/mo | +$100/mo |
| Eight users | $229/mo (10-user band) | $299/mo (Max, 8 included) or $449 on Essentials with seats |
| Year one at 4 users, with reviews, before other add-ons | about $14,900 | about $12,700 |
Read the processing row twice. The subscription gap between these two is a rounding error next to the processing gap, and Housecall Pro's published floor rate is lower.2 The catch is the word "floor." Jobber prints one rate for every plan; Housecall Pro prints "as low as," so get your actual keyed-in and invoice-link rates in writing before you count that $1,700. Either way, shifting big-ticket installs to 1% bank payments saves more than either subscription.
Then there are add-ons, and both vendors sell them. Jobber prices two of its own in the help center (Reviews $39, Marketing Suite $79) and quotes the rest: Receptionist, Sales Pipeline.5, 1 Housecall Pro lists CSR AI call answering, Pipeline, Payroll, Accounting and Business Coaching with no public price at all.2 A 5-person HVAC team on r/ProHVACR in January 2026, recommending Housecall Pro: "There's a ton of 'Add Ons' that you pay additional for but see what works for you."27 Budget the base plan, then ask for the add-on quote in writing before the trial ends.
Quoting: options on one estimate vs optional line items
This is the feature that moves owners between the two. Housecall Pro estimates can carry several options on every plan, and the visual good-better-best presentation (the Sales Proposal Tool) sits on Max.14, 2 A plumber on r/Contractor in March 2026, asked why he left Jobber after a year: "Switched to Housecall Pro because it allows me to send multiple options on the same quote. Sold a tankless water heater the same week I switched. Just that 1 upgrade on the tankless paid for the whole year of HCP, I wouldn't have even quoted it with jobber because of how clunky and confusing sending multiple quotes was."23 He put his HCP bill at "about $800 for the year."
Jobber's answer is optional line items and packages on a quote, which the help center lists under quoting on the Grow plan ($149 for one user, $229 for up to five).4 Core doesn't have them. So on Jobber the shop that sells good-better-best is a Grow shop, and the price gap with Housecall Pro's Essentials becomes $80 a month at the 5-user band. A roofer who tried both, December 2025: "Sales they have a VERY easy 'Good, Better, Best' / 'A/bc' Option function, and approvable line items... I have it set so you can't approve an estimate or request a timeframe without putting 33% deposit down."24 His verdict on the pair: "I love HCP. I tried jobber first and hated it. Literally had the exact opposite experience. OP. Try both, see which one you like better. You'll know in like a week."24
On invoicing they're close. Jobber has batch invoicing, automatic charges to a saved card from Connect, and progress invoicing for multi-stage jobs since 2025.3, 21 Software Advice's review analysis lists the gripes on each side: Jobber won't pass card fees through to clients; Housecall Pro can't apply late fees automatically and invoice corrections mean starting over.21
Online booking, reviews and marketing: what's included vs what's an add-on
Housecall Pro's pricing page is built around inclusion: online booking on Basic, review management on every plan, postcards and email marketing in the box.2, 15 Jobber includes online booking on every plan from Core, but sells Google review requests as a $39-a-month add-on, or bundled in the $79 Marketing Suite that comes free only on Plus.4, 5 For a solo operator the decision is narrower than it looks: both have booking, so it comes down to reviews (Basic at $59 includes them, Core at $29 doesn't).
Owners argue about which review tool works better, and both have a point. The plumber above doubled his prior year's Google reviews in three months on Housecall Pro.23 A contractor who went the other way, October 2025: "What caused me to dump Housecall pro was the fact that when it asks a client for a review, it only gets a Google review if the client has a Gmail account. All other account types will get a review on the Housecall review thing which you can embed in your website."22 I couldn't verify that behavior in the help center, so treat it as one owner's experience and test it in the trial with a non-Gmail customer.
One more thing several owners flag about Housecall Pro's marketing: the marketing pointed at you. An electrician weighing the two in January 2026: "My biggest issue with HCP is they push the better/best upsale game."29 A roofer who'd been on it for years: constant marketing "that we couldn't turn off."24 Not a feature difference. Worth knowing before the demo calls start.
QuickBooks: both sync one way, and both have owners who turned it off
Both integrations push from the FSM into QuickBooks Online and not back. Jobber's help center: the legacy integration is "triggered manually so that you have complete control," and the new integration being rolled out syncs "one-way from Jobber to QuickBooks in real-time."7 Housecall Pro's: the integration "typically functions one-way, with data automatically syncing from Housecall Pro to QuickBooks Online," and "changes made to the invoice itself in Housecall Pro do not automatically update the invoice in QuickBooks Online after the initial sync."12 Deleted invoices get deleted in QuickBooks by hand. Housecall Pro also supports QuickBooks Desktop, which Jobber doesn't; if your bookkeeper is on Desktop, that decides it.12
Both gate it. Jobber's QuickBooks sync starts on Connect; Housecall Pro's starts on Essentials.3, 2 And both have a trail of bookkeepers who gave up. A small-business owner on r/quickbooksonline, February 2026: "I tried Jobber and HCP. My accountant ended up severing the integration then just reconciled them separately monthly."30 Another, June 2026: "We were on Housecall Pro for 3 years, the QBO sync would just stop randomly and create duplicate invoices with no warning."30 Software Advice's analysis of Jobber reviews flags its QuickBooks integration as "prone to sync errors."21 The fix is the same for both: connect QuickBooks during the trial, run two weeks of real invoices, and let the bookkeeper reconcile before you pay for a year.
Integrations and API: open on every Jobber plan, Max-only on Housecall Pro
Jobber's API is free to any account through its Developer Center, no plan gate, and Zapier is available on Connect, Grow and Plus.8, 9 Housecall Pro's help center is blunt: "API is available only to Pros on a MAX plan," and Zapier sits on the same tier.11, 2 For a 3-truck shop that just wants the FSM, this row is irrelevant. For a shop that wants to bolt on a phone system, a review tool, a maintenance-agreement ledger or a custom report, it's the difference between $149 and $299 a month on Housecall Pro, and no difference at all on Jobber.
Equipment records and the mobile app: the HVAC-specific rows
HVAC shops keep losing Jobber over equipment. An owner on r/Contractor, October 2025: "Jobber was great till I had to start tracking customer equipment. (HVAC PMs, and history of service)."22 An r/ProHVACR thread from February 2025 asked how Jobber users track work per unit on commercial accounts and got "I have the same issue" and a plan to file a feature request.28 Housecall Pro has Property profiles; a user in August 2025: "There you can track equipment, tie individual units to jobs, including PM's."28 Neither stores filter sizes or nameplate data in a way that survives a tech leaving, which is why the shops I talk to keep that in a sheet regardless.
The apps themselves rate closer than the Reddit tone suggests. On September 7, 2026 Jobber's iOS app sits at 4.8 stars from 20,787 ratings and Housecall Pro's at 4.6 from 29,514; on Android it flips, 4.4 for Jobber and 4.5 for Housecall Pro.17, 18 Software Advice's read of 4,222 reviews: Housecall Pro users report "bugs and crashes within the mobile app" that push some to the desktop version, and Jobber users report "slow run speed" and clunky recurring-job setup.21 Put a tech on each app for a day of real calls during the trial. That test beats every rating on this page.
Support, contracts and cancelling
Jobber runs phone, chat and email support Monday to Friday, 7am to 9:30pm Eastern, on every plan, with a separate premium line on Plus.10 Housecall Pro runs chat Monday to Friday 5am to 5pm Pacific and weekends 8am to 4pm, phone the same weekdays plus Saturday and not Sunday, and gives Max customers named onboarding specialists and escalated phone support.13 Software Advice scores reviewer sentiment on support at 85% positive for Housecall Pro and 81% for Jobber, and lists the complaints on both sides: slow email replies and inconsistent quality at Jobber, delayed escalations and re-explaining your problem to a new agent at Housecall Pro.21 A 7-truck Jobber shop's take, October 2025: "Jobber is also very responsive to trouble tickets and suggestions."22
Contracts are simpler on paper than in practice. Housecall Pro's page says no long-term contracts; monthly runs month to month and annual commits you for the year.2 Jobber offers monthly with no commitment, monthly with a 12-month term that keeps billing after you cancel, and annual prepaid that's non-refundable mid-term.1 Where Housecall Pro draws more complaints is the exit. A plumber on r/Contractor, August 2026: "I got Housecall Pro Essentials plan and they told me it was $189 per month or $149 per month if I paid for the whole year. They lied and put me on what they call the essential mechanical plan for $299 per month and said they couldn't change it."22 Two more in the same thread describe months of calls to cancel.22 Those are individual reports, and I list them because the same pattern shows up on r/HouseCallPro too. The defense costs nothing: get the quoted plan and seat count in an email before you pay, and cancel in writing before day 14 with the confirmation saved.
What owners say: Jobber vs Housecall Pro on Reddit, 2025-2026
Every quote below was pulled live on September 7, 2026, and none of them come from vendor-run subreddits. Dates and shop sizes are the posters' own.
- HVAC shop that priced ServiceTitan first, May 2025: "10k upfront investment for the set up and first 3 months it was a no from me right now so we went housecall pro. HCP is $150/month for the middle tier. Does everything we need it to. Wish they had service agreements on the middle tier but we just track with an xcel spreadsheet. HCP is kinda clunky."26
- 7 guys in the field, $1M+ a year, on Jobber, October 2025: "It's pretty great and your techs will appreciate the Notes features. Jobber is also very responsive to trouble tickets and suggestions."22
- Commercial HVAC at $2M a year, January 2026: "They all suck on certain aspects. Cheapest: house call pro Most robust: service titan We opted for cheapest. Its a bit clunky but serves our need."27
- Two years on Jobber, leaving for something simpler, January 2026: "Jobber is great if you are a power user and utilize all the features. its got a loooot of features. we needed something simple and cheap."31
- Housecall Pro shop that grew past ten techs, May 2025: "HCP is fine for residential, but it seems weak for commercial... HCP really started turning into a mess once we were past 10-techs I found."26 They're still on it.
- HVAC and remodel divisions on Housecall Pro, 6 users, October 2025: "Worth getting the 300 a month version to start. It comes with white glove on boarding and teaches you the ins and outs. Then after the training you can go down to the lower tier pricing if you don't have a lot of employees." He got Max "discounted to 99 for the first 3 months."22
- Residential HVAC owner shopping for equipment tracking, May 2025, answered by a peer: "Jobber can work as well but it doesn't have maintenance contracts or equipment tracking. Both integrate to QBO."28
Two patterns hold across all of it. Nobody switches over dispatch or invoicing; those are a wash. People switch over quoting options, equipment records, seat prices and how the vendor treats them on the way out.
Which should a 1-4 truck HVAC shop choose?
Decision rules, in the order I'd apply them:
- Solo and want the lowest bill? Jobber Core, $29 a month billed annually. Solo and want customers booking themselves from day one? Housecall Pro Basic, $59, which also includes review requests. Neither has QuickBooks sync at that level.
- 2-4 trucks, choosing fresh? Both are $149. Pick Housecall Pro if you sell options-based estimates, want reviews and booking included, or run commercial accounts that need per-unit equipment history. Pick Jobber if you want Zapier or API access without a $299 tier, route optimization at the mid tier, and cheap seats as you hire.
- Hiring toward 6-8 users in the next year? Jobber. The sixth user is $29 against $100, and eight users is $229 against Max at $299.
- Bookkeeper on QuickBooks Desktop? Housecall Pro; Jobber only syncs with Online. On QuickBooks Online, either, but run the sync through the trial with the bookkeeper watching.
- Maintenance agreements are a real revenue line? Neither one runs them end to end. Pick on the rules above and read the next section.
For the wider field (ServiceTitan, FieldEdge, Service Fusion, Workiz), the roundup is the best HVAC maintenance agreement software comparison, and the ServiceTitan step up is covered in ServiceTitan pricing.
Either way: what neither does about maintenance agreements
The owner above who "wished they had service agreements on the middle tier" is describing Housecall Pro's gate: Recurring Service Plans is a Max feature, $150 a month over Essentials on annual billing.2 Once you have it, three holes are documented, two of them by Housecall Pro itself. The visits dashboard is, in the help center's words, "your reminder to schedule actual appointment times," so the office still calls every member every spring and fall.32 Once a plan is active "the billing frequency cannot be changed" and "the credit card cannot be removed."32 And completed plan visits invoice at $0.00 with no link back to the plan payment, which is the thread titled "Service Plan headaches."33 The module's full behavior is in Housecall Pro service plans, explained.
Jobber has no membership object on any plan; the feature request has been open in its community for years.34 Shops build the workaround from a recurring job per member, a client tag for the tier, a custom field for the renewal date and a recurring invoice (the click-by-click build is in how to run maintenance plans in Jobber). It holds until you count what leaks: no count of visits owed vs delivered, discounts applied from memory, renewals you have to ask for. The head-to-head on this one question, with the renewal-rate math, is Jobber vs Housecall Pro for maintenance plans.
This is the part I have a product in, so weigh it accordingly. Deepsel is an agreement ledger that runs beside the FSM you keep: plan, tier, covered equipment, card on file, visits owed vs delivered per unit. It auto-charges renewals with retries and failed-payment flags, emails every member who's due a booking reminder each season (texts on Pro), and warns you before a paid visit expires. Starter is $79 a month, Pro $159 (coming soon), unlimited users. With Jobber, Starter imports your customer export and the reminder emails carry your Jobber booking link; Pro syncs natively through that free API and writes booked visits back as jobs. With Housecall Pro, the reminders carry HCP's own booking link, which works from the $59 Basic plan, so you keep Essentials instead of buying Max; native sync is planned. Stack cost either way: Jobber Connect $149 plus Deepsel $79 is $228 a month, and Housecall Pro Essentials $149 plus Deepsel $79 is $228, each against Max at $299 with the module's holes intact. And if the whole program is 25 agreements and someone enjoys the calls, the free tracking spreadsheet is the right tool.
14-day free trial. No credit card required. Still deciding between the two? The free agreement-tracking spreadsheet works beside either one.Frequently asked questions
Is Jobber or Housecall Pro better for HVAC?
For a 1-4 truck HVAC shop they cost the same at the tier you would buy ($149 a month billed annually) and neither one runs maintenance agreements well, so pick on the gates. Both include online booking on every plan. Housecall Pro adds review requests on every plan, supports options on estimates, and has Property profiles for equipment. Jobber charges $29 for each extra user instead of $100, has route optimization from Connect, and opens its API and Zapier without a top-tier upgrade. Owners who track equipment on commercial accounts lean Housecall Pro; owners who expect to add users or bolt on other tools lean Jobber.
Which is cheaper, Jobber or Housecall Pro?
Jobber, at every point except the middle. Solo: Jobber Core is $29 a month billed annually against Housecall Pro Basic at $59. At 2-5 users both are $149 (Jobber Connect, Housecall Pro Essentials). Past five users Jobber adds seats at $29 each while Housecall Pro charges $100 each on Essentials or moves you to Max at $299. Card processing runs the other way: Housecall Pro advertises rates from 2.59% and Jobber charges 2.9% plus 30 cents online, which is a bigger annual number than the subscription for most card-heavy shops.
Can I switch from Housecall Pro to Jobber, or the other way?
Yes, and owners do it in both directions. Customers, jobs and invoices export to CSV and import into the other system. What does not travel: saved cards (customers re-enter payment details), Housecall Pro service plans (Jobber has no membership object to receive them), and history that lives in job photos and notes, which you keep as an export rather than a working record. Run the 14-day trial on the other side with real data before you cancel anything, and cancel in writing.
Does Jobber or Housecall Pro sync with QuickBooks?
Both do, both one way, and both gate it. Jobber syncs to QuickBooks Online from the Connect plan; the legacy integration is triggered manually and the new one pushes in real time, Jobber to QuickBooks. Housecall Pro syncs to QuickBooks Online from Essentials, one way, and also supports QuickBooks Desktop. Edits made after an invoice has synced do not update QuickBooks in Housecall Pro, and owners of both tools report duplicate invoices and bookkeepers who turned the sync off. Test it with your bookkeeper during the trial.
Which is better for a one-man shop, Jobber or Housecall Pro?
Jobber Core at $29 a month is the cheapest way to get professional quotes, jobs, invoices and online booking, but it has no automated reminders and no QuickBooks sync. Housecall Pro Basic at $59 includes online booking and review requests but no QuickBooks sync. Both have booking on their cheapest plan; the difference is reviews (Basic includes them, Core doesn't). If you want the lowest bill, Jobber Core. The moment you hire, both move you to the $149 tier.
Does Jobber or Housecall Pro have maintenance agreements?
Housecall Pro has a Recurring Service Plans module, gated to the $299 Max tier, and it has documented holes: the visits dashboard is a reminder list the office works by hand, the billing frequency and saved card lock once a plan is active, and completed plan visits invoice at $0.00. Jobber has no membership object on any plan; shops build a workaround from recurring jobs, tags and a spreadsheet. Either way the agreement ledger, renewals and visit tracking end up outside the FSM.
What do Jobber and Housecall Pro cost with 6 to 8 users?
On annual billing: Jobber Connect is $178 a month at 6 users (the 5-user band plus one $29 seat) and $229 at 8 users (the 10-user band). Housecall Pro Essentials is $249 at 6 users ($149 plus one $100 seat) and $449 at 8, so most Housecall Pro shops at that size move to Max at $299 with 8 users included. The gap is $71 a month at 6 users and $70 at 8, in Jobber's favor, before add-ons and processing.
