ServiceM8 vs Jobber (2026): per-job pricing from Australia against per-user pricing from Canada, for a 1-4 truck shop
- Deepsel is our product. It appears in one labeled section near the end and is not the answer to the ServiceM8-vs-Jobber question.
- Every price was checked on the vendor's own pricing page (US, Australian and UK pages for ServiceM8) on September 7, 2026.
- Every claim about what breaks or what's missing links to the help article, review or Reddit thread it came from, with the date.
ServiceM8 charges by jobs, not people: $29 to $349 a month with unlimited users, a full app on iPhone and iPad only, and native Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks Online sync. Jobber charges by users: $29 to $399-plus a month, a full app on Android and iOS, and a free open API. Two or more people on Apple phones: ServiceM8 is cheaper. An Android crew, or a US shop that lives in QuickBooks: Jobber. Neither one holds a maintenance agreement.
These two get compared because they sit at the same price point for the same shop and come from opposite sides of the world. ServiceM8 was founded in 2009 by Kim Ford and his son Ben, shipped its first version in 2010 as an iPhone and web app, and now claims 50 million jobs managed across more than 40 countries.11 Jobber was founded in 2011 in Edmonton by Sam Pillar and Forrest Zeisler27 and passed 100,000 customers in May 2026, with 400,000 service pros using it daily in more than 70 countries.26
The typical searcher is a sole trader in Queensland, a two-van plumber in Manchester, or a three-truck locksmith in Ohio who has heard Jobber called the standard everywhere online and wants to know why the Australian app keeps coming up cheaper. A pool tech in Southeast Queensland asked exactly that on r/Contractor in February 2026, and the thread that followed is the one that tops the search results for this comparison.28 I've pulled the useful parts of it below.

ServiceM8 vs Jobber pricing: per job against per user, worked out
ServiceM8 costs $0 to $349 a month by job volume with unlimited logins; Jobber costs $29 to $399-plus a month by user count with a $29 seat charge beyond your band. For one person the two are level. From two people up, ServiceM8 is $50-70 a month cheaper, until your job count outgrows a tier.
Here's the honest math for two shop sizes, US prices, September 7, 2026. Line items for each vendor are on the ServiceM8 pricing and Jobber pricing pages.
| Shop | ServiceM8 | Jobber | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 trucks: 2 techs plus the owner, 3 logins, about 80 jobs a month, $12,000 a month by card over 60 payments | Growing, $79 (150-job cap, three logins cost nothing). Cards: $12,000 × 3.05% + 60 × 30¢ ≈ $384. About $463 a month; $948 a year in subscription1, 13 | Connect, up-to-5 band, $149 on annual billing ($199 monthly). Cards: $12,000 × 2.9% + 60 × 30¢ ≈ $366. About $515 a month; $1,788 a year in subscription4 | ServiceM8 saves $70 a month on the plan and gives back $18 on card fees. Net about $52 a month, $840 a year on subscription alone |
| 3 trucks: 3 techs plus an office manager, 4 logins, about 130 jobs a month, $15,000 a month by card over 80 payments | Growing, $79, until spring and fall tune-ups push a month past 150 jobs; then Premium, $149. Cards: about $482. $79-149 a month plus cards1, 13 | Connect, up-to-5 band, $149 annual. Cards: about $459. $149 a month plus cards4 | Level in a busy month, $70 in ServiceM8's favor in a quiet one; Jobber's card rate claws back about $23 |
| Solo: one person, about 40 jobs a month | Starter, $29, month to month. Under 30 jobs: Free, $01 | Core, $29 a month only with a year prepaid ($348 up front); $49 month to month. No optional line items or on-my-way texts on Core4, 5 | Same headline price; ServiceM8 gets there without the prepay |
Two things the table can't show. First, the job cap is a real budget line if you sell maintenance agreements: every plan visit is a job card, so 150 agreements at two visits a year is 300 extra jobs, bunched in the shoulder seasons.1 Second, in Australia and the UK the card math flips hard toward ServiceM8. A Growing-plan shop pays 1.65% + 30c in Australia and 1.65% + 20p in the UK through ServiceM8 Pay,13 while Jobber Payments doesn't exist in Australia at all and Australian accounts route cards through Square, Stripe, PayPal Express or Authorize.net at those processors' own rates.7
Does ServiceM8 work on Android? This one question decides most comparisons
The full ServiceM8 app runs on iPhone and iPad. Android phones get ServiceM8 Lite, which the help center describes as an app for "subcontractors, temporary workers & field technicians who use Android devices, and who only need to see their own jobs and complete core tasks in the field."10 It arrived in 2024.11 An owner can't run the business from it, and it rates 3.8 on Google Play against the iPhone app's 4.6.24, 25 Jobber's app is the same product on both platforms.4
ServiceM8 has decided to pay its way past this rather than build around it. New subscribers who buy an eligible iPhone get the phone's full base retail price back as account credit, applied at 50% of the plan's base price each month until it runs out, for up to five phones.12 A Canadian locksmith who wrote in August 2024 that ServiceM8 was the one he liked best "but it only works on IPhone... and all my Techs already have Androids" took the deal: "So I will be getting 50% off for nearly 4 years. We all still hate Iphones... but sometime you gotta take one for the team." By April 2026 he was "running a crew of 9 guys now across two shops."29
If you won't switch phones, this section ends the comparison: Jobber. If you're already on iPhones, keep reading, because the rest mostly goes the other way. (One caution from a ServiceM8 user on r/AusElectricians, May 2025: "severe issues with the app force closing when booking jobs in. Back and forth with support and 3 months on and no fix in sight."36 Single report, but a real one.)
Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks: which accounting package you run
ServiceM8's pricing page lists Xero, QuickBooks Online and MYOB sync on every plan, Free included.1 Jobber syncs QuickBooks Online from the Connect plan up9 and added Xero for the USA, Canada, UK, Australia and New Zealand on the Connect and Grow plans.6 So a Xero shop can use either, at $79 on ServiceM8 or $99-plus on Jobber; an MYOB shop has one choice.
Watch for stale claims here. A comparison post published in June 2026 states that ServiceM8 has no QuickBooks integration and Jobber has no Xero.37 Both vendors' own pages say otherwise as of September 7, 2026. What's true is that the ServiceM8-plus-Xero pairing is the default stack in Australian trade threads. An Adelaide plumber setting up solo in January 2026 asked whether to go ServiceM8 plus Xero, and the replies were variations on one line: "We're on ServiceM8 + Xero as well. Once jobs, photos and invoicing lived in one system, the admin is pretty easy."35 The locksmith above, on the US side: the SM8 Pay add-on "automatically marks invoices as paid in the system which connects directly to my Xero accounting software."29
Where each one sells, and how you get paid: US, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand
ServiceM8 runs regional sites for Australia, Canada, Europe, New Zealand, the UK, the US and South Africa,11 prices in local currency in the big three (USD, AUD including GST, GBP excluding VAT),1, 2, 3 and publishes ServiceM8 Pay card rates for all five English-speaking markets.13 Jobber prices in USD everywhere,4 and the features that matter most in the field are region-locked:
- Card processing. Jobber Payments is available in the UK, US and Canada.7 Australian accounts can connect Square, Stripe, PayPal Express or Authorize.net. New Zealand appears on neither list in Jobber's help center.7
- Automatic card-on-file payments for recurring work: US and Canada only.4
- Two-way texting with clients: US, Canada and UK only.4
- Support hours: Monday to Friday, 7am to 9:30pm Eastern, by phone, chat and email.8 ServiceM8 lists 24/7 chat and email on every paid plan.1
For an Australian, Kiwi or British shop that adds up to a clear answer: the Canadian app is usable, the Australian app is built for you. For a US shop it's the mirror image in one respect. ServiceM8 Pay charges US cards 3.05% + 30¢ on every plan, above Jobber's 2.9% + 30¢,13, 4 and a US ServiceM8 user warned the Queensland pool tech that "Given I'm in the states customer service may take some time to get ahold of someone, I doubt you would have that same issue."28 Yet US shops do run it happily. A three-man locksmith in October 2024: "I'm in the states and it works perfectly... For my three man show it is less expensive and has more features than Housecall(the worst), Kickserv, Jobber, or Workiz... we use the $79/month version just fine. And thats not per user, thats total."31
Field-first or office-first: how the two feel on the job
The clearest owner-level distinction in the threads is who the app was built for. A handyman on the r/Contractor thread, February 2026: "For a sole trader, ServiceM8 has a better mobile experience in my opinion. Jobber is solid but feels like it was built for a dispatcher, not the guy doing the work. If you're scheduling your own routes and invoicing on the spot, ServiceM8 handles that workflow better."28 The pool tech, after a week on the ServiceM8 trial: "honestly I think I prefer it to Jobber anyway, despite Jobber being praised as the gold standard everywhere online."28 He also noticed the catch: "a fair amount of its features are actually locked behind the desktop version," and ServiceM8's own docs confirm the fuller recurring-jobs add-on is created only from the online dispatch board.28, 16
ServiceM8's shape is one visit, one job card, one invoice. A Queensland electrical contractor who ran 100,000 jobs through it before moving up to simPRO called it "the best overall backend and field user experience of all the apps no questions. However it is truly designed for one site visit is one job is one invoice. It becomes messy if you start doing large projects with teams returning multiple days or even weeks on end."33 Jobber's add-on model is the complaint on its side. A stone installer who signed up on the Grow plan in January 2026: "I didn't realize until after signing up that reviews cost an extra $39 a month and referrals are another $29. Those feel like basic features that any CRM should already include."34 ServiceM8's add-ons are mostly gated by plan rather than priced separately (ServiceM8 Phone, from $19, is the exception), which is a different kind of cost: the forms builder needs Growing, job costing needs Premium.1
What owners say: ServiceM8 vs Jobber in their words
Dated, linked, and chosen from people who had used or priced both. I left out comments from accounts that were also promoting their own software.
- Pressure washer, Canada, February 2024: "If you've thought about Jobbr but decided USD $65/month to send quotes was too costly then I'd check out ServiceM8... Customer support is 24/7 and they're very knowledgeable."30
- Same thread, August 2024: "I looked at Service Titan, Housecall, Jobber and a few others and it's the best value by far. Only down side is you HAVE to use Iphones on the road, no android support which is shocking." And a month later, from another reader: "If they had Android support I'd have switched a year ago."30
- US contractor who tried Jobber and came back, September 2024: "The price drop is definitely a huge plus... I just can't pay more for a program AND pay my customers credit card processing fees."32
- Locksmith, October 2024, on Jobber: "I used Jobber. Loved it... we had a company rule and that was if it wasn't in jobber, it never happened."31
- Australian sparky, November 2023: "Service m8 is great for a cheap schedule for a one man show."32 And a pool contractor in March 2026, the other way: "I only found servicem8 useful when i got abouve 3 staff. Anything under and a hand written diary was best for me."28
- Sole trader, June 2026, on both: "Tried Jobber and ServiceM8 etc, all way too complicated and expensive for what I needed."34
Which should a 1-4 truck shop choose?
Decision rules, in order. The first one that fits you is the answer.
- Techs on Android phones you won't replace? Jobber. ServiceM8 Lite can't run a business, and the iPhone credit only helps if you're willing to switch handsets.
- In Australia, New Zealand or the UK, on iPhones? ServiceM8. Local currency, GST-inclusive or VAT-exclusive pricing, Xero and MYOB on every plan, ServiceM8 Pay at 1.49-1.85% in Australia and 1.65% in the UK, and 24/7 support. Jobber gets you there with USD billing, a third-party processor in Australia, no in-app cards listed for New Zealand, and no two-way texting outside the US, Canada and UK.
- US shop with two to four people on iPhones, price-sensitive? ServiceM8 at $79 against Jobber's $149, as long as the 0.15-point gap in card rate (about $18 on $12,000 of card volume) doesn't bother you. On QuickBooks Online either syncs; on MYOB only ServiceM8 does.
- US shop that runs from an office, with a dispatcher, weekday phone support in your time zone, and plans to bolt tools on? Jobber. The per-user model stops hurting once the office is the point, its GPS, routing and automations are built for that seat, and the free GraphQL API means any companion tool integrates without a tier upgrade.23
- Multi-day projects or crews returning to the same site for weeks? Jobber, or neither. ServiceM8's one-visit-one-job model is the thing its own power users flag,33 and the job cap counts every card you create.
For the wider field (Housecall Pro, ServiceTitan, FieldEdge, Service Fusion, Workiz), see the maintenance agreement software comparison by shop size, and for the other entry-level pair, Jobber vs Housecall Pro for maintenance plans.
Either way: what neither does about maintenance agreements
If you sell two tune-ups a year with a discount and priority service, billed up front or monthly, neither app holds that agreement. Both have recurring jobs, and recurring jobs are a calendar, not a ledger.
ServiceM8: recurring jobs are on every plan and create future job cards as inactive "TBC" placeholders that wake up a week before each date, or as Inbox reminders the office acts on.16 The pricing page lists Auto-Pay for recurring jobs from Starter,1 but the help center says it "is only supported with the Stripe Payments add-on (not available to new customers)" and is "not supported with ServiceM8 Pay."14, 15 No plan price, no renewal date, no visits owed against delivered. The gap is real enough that two paid add-ons exist to fill it: Service Plan Pro at $29 to $99 a month and PPM Service Contracts, both built for ServiceM8.17, 18 Full detail in ServiceM8 recurring jobs.
Jobber: no membership object on any tier, and the feature request has sat open in Jobber's community for years.19 The workaround is a recurring job for the visits, a client tag for the tier, a custom field for the renewal date and a recurring invoice for billing; on select plans in the US and Canada, automatic payments charge a saved card on that schedule.20 It leaks in the same three places: nothing counts a skipped spring visit, discounts are applied from memory, and renewal is something you ask for. Shops that ask convert 40-50% of members; shops that auto-charge a card on file convert 80% or better.38 The click-by-click build is in how to run maintenance plans in Jobber.
This is the part I have a product in, so weigh it accordingly. Deepsel is an agreement ledger that runs beside the field-service app you keep. It holds the plan, the tier, the covered equipment, the card on file and the visits owed against visits delivered per unit. It charges renewals on the card with retries and flags the ones that fail, emails every member who's due a booking reminder each spring and fall (texts on Pro), and warns you before a paid visit expires. Starter is $79 a month, Pro $159 (coming soon), unlimited users. With Jobber, Starter imports your client list and the reminder emails carry your Jobber booking link; Pro syncs natively through that free API and writes booked visits back as jobs. With Housecall Pro, the reminders carry HCP's own booking link, which works from the $59 Basic plan, and native sync is planned. With ServiceM8 there is no integration today: you import an export, and when a member books, the office creates the job card in ServiceM8 the way it does now. Deepsel is built for US shops and billed in USD. If you're in Australia, New Zealand or the UK on ServiceM8, Service Plan Pro and PPM are built for your market and I'd look there first.
14-day free trial. No credit card required. Still deciding? The free agreement-tracking spreadsheet works beside either app.Frequently asked questions
Is ServiceM8 or Jobber better for a small trade business?
It comes down to phones and country. ServiceM8 is the better fit for a 1-4 person shop on iPhones in Australia, New Zealand, the UK or Canada: it bills in local currency, syncs natively with Xero and MYOB, charges by jobs rather than people, and runs 24/7 chat support from Australia. Jobber is the better fit for a crew on Android phones, a US shop that lives in QuickBooks Online, or an owner who wants an office-style dispatch board and a free open API. Neither one tracks maintenance agreements, so that part of the business runs beside either tool.
Is ServiceM8 cheaper than Jobber?
For two or more people, yes. ServiceM8's paid plans ($29, $79, $149 and $349 a month, verified September 7, 2026) include unlimited users and are capped by jobs per month instead. Jobber's Connect plan is $99 a month for one user or $149 for up to five on annual billing, with extra users at $29 each. A 2-truck shop pays about $79 on ServiceM8 against $149 on Jobber. For a true solo operator the two are level: ServiceM8 Starter is $29 month to month, Jobber Core is $29 only if you prepay a year ($49 month to month). Under 30 jobs a month ServiceM8 is free.
Does ServiceM8 work on Android?
Only partly. The full ServiceM8 app runs on iPhone and iPad. Android users get ServiceM8 Lite, which ServiceM8's help center says is meant for 'subcontractors, temporary workers and field technicians who use Android devices, and who only need to see their own jobs and complete core tasks in the field.' It cannot run the business. Jobber's app is the same on Android and iOS. ServiceM8 knows this is the sticking point: new subscribers who buy iPhones get the phone's retail price back as account credit, applied at 50% of the plan price each month, for up to five phones.
Is ServiceM8 available in the US?
Yes. ServiceM8 has a US site with prices in USD, a US support phone number on its pricing page, and ServiceM8 Pay card processing in the US at 3.05% plus 30 cents per transaction. US shops on Reddit run it: a three-man locksmith on the $79 plan wrote in October 2024 that it 'works perfectly' and costs less than Jobber for his crew. Two things to weigh: the US card rate is higher than Jobber's 2.9% plus 30 cents, and one US user noted that reaching support can take longer from the States than it does in Australia.
Does Jobber work in Australia and the UK?
Jobber sells worldwide and lists 100,000 customers across more than 70 countries, but its pricing is in USD everywhere and some features are region-locked. Jobber Payments, its built-in card processor, is available in the UK, US and Canada. Australian accounts use a third-party processor (Square, Stripe, PayPal Express or Authorize.net); New Zealand is not on either list in Jobber's help center. Two-way texting is US, Canada and UK only, and automatic card-on-file payments are US and Canada only. The Xero integration covers the USA, Canada, UK, Australia and New Zealand on the Connect and Grow plans.
Does ServiceM8 or Jobber have maintenance plans?
Neither has a membership or maintenance-agreement object. Both have recurring jobs, which put repeat visits on the calendar and nothing more: no plan price, no renewal date, no count of visits owed against visits delivered, no member discount. ServiceM8's automatic payment for recurring jobs only works on the legacy Stripe add-on, which is closed to new customers. Jobber's automatic payments charge a saved card on a recurring job's schedule on select plans in the US and Canada. Shops on either tool keep a spreadsheet beside it or add a companion tool: Service Plan Pro or PPM for ServiceM8, Deepsel for Jobber.
Can I switch from ServiceM8 to Jobber, or the other way?
Clients, jobs and invoices export from both as CSV and import into the other, so the records move. What does not move: saved cards (every client re-enters payment details), automated message templates and forms (rebuilt by hand), and ServiceM8's recurring job templates or Jobber's recurring jobs (recreated one at a time). Run the two free trials side by side for a week on real jobs before deciding. Both trials are 14 days with no card required; Jobber's runs on the Grow plan, ServiceM8's includes every add-on and unlimited jobs.
