ServiceTitan memberships, explained: setup, renewals, the documented limits, and the math for a 2-truck shop
- Every feature claim on this page comes from ServiceTitan's own help center (updated between March and August 2026) or from ServiceTitan users, quoted with links. ServiceTitan publishes no prices; every dollar figure is a user report, labeled as such.
- I build Deepsel, a maintenance-agreement tool for shops that run beside Jobber or Housecall Pro. That matters for exactly one section of this page, and it's labeled. The rest is a fair read of what ServiceTitan's module does.
ServiceTitan memberships are a The Works feature as of September 2026: the top package, priced per technician on a quote, and not included on Starter or Essentials. The module covers membership types, recurring service visits, renewals and card-on-file billing. Users report $250-500 per tech per month, and a contractor running 2,500 members says don't switch under four vans.1, 15, 13
I'll say this up front: ServiceTitan's membership module is the most complete one in the trade. If you run 20 trucks and 3,000 members, this page won't talk you out of it. It's for the shop with 2 trucks and 150 agreements that saw the membership screens on a demo and is trying to work out whether that's what the per-tech price buys.
Which ServiceTitan plan includes memberships, and what does it cost?
The Works, and only The Works. ServiceTitan's pricing page lists three packages, Starter, Essentials and The Works. Each card shows an included list and, greyed out below it, what the package leaves out. "Customizable Memberships" is in the greyed block on Starter and on Essentials, and in the included list on The Works. Every package ends in a "Request Pricing" button, and the page describes the model as "per-technician pricing."1 So you can't buy memberships as a module, and you can't get them on the cheaper packages either. A shop that wants ServiceTitan for its agreements is pricing the top package, by tech count.
Since there's no list price, here's what users have posted:
- "ServiceTitan can cost anywhere from $250-500 per technician per month (based on the package)." A commenter answering a 3-truck plumbing shop that had just been quoted, July 2026.15
- "3 techs including me. Tried servicetitan and it was way too much software for a shop our size, 800/month and the onboarding alone took 6 weeks." Then, listing what he didn't need: "Not memberships, not marketing automation, not a pricebook with 4000 items." April 2026.14
- "right now I have 6 guys on ST and my bill is 1200. BUT. I pay for a company called titan pro technologies with is 3000 a month and they have honestly helped so much. I dont think I would do ST without them." November 2024.17
The full picture, with contract terms, add-ons and more user-reported bills, is on the ServiceTitan pricing page. For this page the number that matters is the top of the range, because memberships need The Works: a 2-truck shop is looking at roughly $800-1,000 a month before onboarding, before any Pro product, and before the extra charge for automatic card updating (more on that below).
How memberships work in ServiceTitan
Here's the module the way ServiceTitan's help center describes it. It's a good design, and it's worth understanding because most smaller tools copy pieces of it.
Membership types
An administrator builds each plan in the Membership Wizard (Settings, Invoicing, Membership Types). A type has a duration, either Ongoing ("Customer is billed periodically for the membership, and there is no expiration date") or Fixed ("Membership has an expiration date after which the customer can renew"), and a billing frequency: monthly, every other month, quarterly, bi-annually or annually, with an upfront option for fixed plans.4 The type also carries the member discount, tags, the price table and the recurring services included.2 ServiceTitan's own guidance says residential memberships typically cover 1 to 3 pieces of equipment and price between $100 and $400.9
Selling one
Techs sell memberships from the tablet. In ServiceTitan Mobile, the tech adds a membership sale task to the estimate or invoice, picks the duration and billing option, and "adding a sale task to an invoice activates the membership."5 The office can sell from the customer record the same way. This is the part ServiceTitan does better than anyone: the sale happens at the kitchen table, on the same invoice as the repair, with the discount applied on the spot.
Recurring services and recurring service events
The visits included in a plan are called recurring services. Each is a recurring service type with its own frequency ("annual, seasonal, monthly, bi-monthly, etc") and invoice template, attached to the customer's service location when the membership is sold.2 ServiceTitan then generates recurring service events, "individual service events that are automatically scheduled based on recurring service settings," up to 12 months into the future.6
Those events live on the Follow Up screen, and this is the sentence to read twice: "The date of a recurring event lets you know when to schedule a service. You set the actual service date when you book the event into a job."6 The event is a to-do for the office. A CSR filters the list by service type, technician, zone or zip, calls the customer, and books the event into a job or logs a follow-up ("Unreachable," "not ready to book"). There's a bulk-book option, and members with notifications turned on can get a confirmation.6 The full walkthrough of recurring services, from pricebook setup to booking and dismissing the events, is here.
Billing
Ongoing memberships bill through billing runs in Accounting, by hand or on automatic billing rules keyed to the day of the month.12 The run charges the card on file, batches the invoices, and drops any failures into Billing History under Failed Payment or Unattempted Payment for someone to chase.11
Renewals
Fixed memberships surface on the Expiring Memberships tab in Follow Up, defaulting to plans expiring in the next two weeks. The office builds renewal estimates (in bulk, if the account is configured for it), calls the customer, and marks the opportunity Won, Dismissed, Unreachable or Contacted.7 Techs can also sell a renewal task on an in-progress job, and a "Potential Membership Renewal" tag appears on jobs for members expiring within three months by default.7, 8
The setup most shops underestimate
Memberships are the last thing you configure in ServiceTitan, because they depend on almost everything else. From the quick-setup guide, before a single plan can be sold you need, per membership type:3
- Three pricebook tasks: a new sale task, a renewal task, and a billing task, each mapped to a general-ledger account.
- One recurring service type for every visit in the plan, with job type, business unit, arrival window and duration filled in, or the events show up as "Not Bookable" until someone fixes them.6
- An invoice template per recurring service, and a billing template for ongoing plans.
- A revenue-recognition choice (recognize at sale, or spread it across the visits), which changes which pricebook items and templates you need.2
Then there's the list of features that don't turn on until you ask. In ServiceTitan's docs, "Account configuration is required" or "contact Technical Support" appears on renewing a membership,8 building renewal estimates in bulk,7 keeping a membership active until its last visit,10 automatic card updating (with "Additional charges apply"),13 and the setting that controls whether renewals copy recurring services.18 None of that is a knock on the product. It's the reason the 3-tech shop above spent six weeks in onboarding and why a 6-tech shop pays a consultant $3,000 a month to run it.
The documented limits, in ServiceTitan's own words
ServiceTitan publishes a comparison of memberships (residential) against service agreements (commercial). Read as a list of what the residential module can't do, the "No" column says:9
"Ability to tie the service agreement to multiple locations selectively: No." "Ability to track Budget vs Actuals (profitability of the agreement): No* (Account configuration required)." "Generate a custom PDF version of the agreement that can be sent off for approval: No." "Ability to track different new agreement opportunity statuses such as In progress, Sent, or Accepted: No."
So a member with a rental property and a home gets two memberships, there's no agreement document to send for signature, and a membership is either sold or it isn't. For most residential shops that's fine. Four other limits matter more day to day:
- Billing frequency locks at sale. "Since the system does not allow changing the billing cycle from monthly to annual for an already sold membership, you need to resell the membership." Cancel, then sell again with the right option.19
- Memberships expire with visits still owed. The help center's own problem statement: "Memberships are expiring based on the set end date, which is before all Recurring service events can be completed." The fix is the Keep Membership Active Until the Last Event configuration, which support has to enable; "Without this feature, memberships will expire based on the set end date."10
- A preferred card that fails just fails. "If a customer has a credit card set as the preferred payment method for membership billing, only that card is used to process billing, even if the customer has additional credit cards on file. If the preferred credit card transaction is unsuccessful, payment processing fails."11 The invoice lands in Failed Payment and the office resolves it by hand.
- Automatic card updating is an upsell. Membership Renewal Protection checks cards with the issuing banks monthly. "Account configuration required. Additional charges apply." American Express cards aren't updated at all.13
One more that reads like a bug report: a membership paid up front but set to bill annually will charge the customer again after twelve months, and the documented fix is to move the next billing date out to the expiry and repair the membership type.20
Renewals and failed payments, in users' words
The renewal gotcha with the longest paper trail is what happens to recurring services when a fixed membership renews. ServiceTitan's help center has an article titled "What is causing recurring services not to be added when renewing a membership and how can it be resolved?" The cause is a feature configuration, Copy recurring services from expiring memberships instead of Membership type, and the fix is to check the type's recurrences and request that the configuration be turned off.18 The same problem from the shop side, in a ServiceTitan Community thread whose title is public even though the thread sits behind a login: "We just learned that when you renew a membership, the membership does not duplicate the existing membership. You have to edit recurring service months, recurring service memos, tags, etc. We have 4K memberships. Anyone have a workaround/suggestion?"21
On failed payments, another Community thread title, from November 2024: "BEWARE IF USING ACH: $8,661 IN FAILED TRANSACTIONS, NO ALERTS RECEIVED."22 I can't quote the body (login-walled), but the title matches what the billing docs describe: failures are recorded in Billing History for someone to go and look at, and the docs describe no retry schedule and no message to the member when a card fails.11
And on getting your members back out. An owner ending his contract, September 2025: "How do I export all of my client data including jobs, invoices, paid status and memberships so that I can use another CRM? I can't seem to get in touch with a live person to save my life." Two comments later: "I just spent 45 on hold only to get disconnected and then another 30 only to refer me to my CSM."23
What still needs a spreadsheet at a small shop
Everything above assumes an office: a CSR working the Follow Up screen every day, a bookkeeper running billing runs, and an admin who owns pricebook and configurations. At a 2-truck shop those three people are one person, and that person also drives a truck. Where the sheet creeps back in:
- Who's due. The recurring service events list answers it, per event, once someone filters it. The report that shows members who haven't had a specific visit is "Location Recurring Service With Invoice Template Details," filtered to Not Attempted.24 Most small shops end up exporting the events table to CSV and working the calls from there, which the docs support with an Export button.6
- Renewal follow-up. The docs' best practice is "build your renewal estimates before calling customers," then call.7 Automated renewal outreach by email is a Marketing Pro job; without Marketing Pro, the documented way to email your members is to filter the customer search by Member Status, export to Excel, and use "your preferred email marketing tool."25
- The member ledger. The Customer Memberships report gives you type, status, sold-by, from and to dates, next billing date and location, and building it is a custom report, which the help center says "is available only to contractors on the Works package."26 Visits owed vs delivered, equipment covered, and billing history live on three different screens, which is why the export question above has no one-click answer.
Six practices for shops running memberships on ServiceTitan
If you're on ServiceTitan and staying, these are the settings and habits that keep the module out of trouble. All of them come from the help center or from users.
- Ask support for Keep Membership Active Until the Last Event on day one. Without it, a fall visit that slips into December expires with the plan and the member never gets what they paid for.10
- Don't set a preferred card unless you have to. With no preferred card, a failed charge falls through to each stored card until one works. With one, it just fails.11
- Decide monthly vs annual before the tech taps Save. Changing it later means cancel and resell, and the history splits across two memberships.19
- Check your recurrences after the first renewal. Open a renewed membership and confirm the recurring services came across. If they didn't, it's the copy-from-expiring configuration, and support can turn it off.18
- Put Billing History on a weekly calendar slot. Failed and Unattempted payments sit there until someone opens the tab. Nobody is texted.11
- Fill in job type, business unit and arrival window on every recurring service type. Otherwise the events are Not Bookable and the CSR finds out at booking time.6
ServiceTitan memberships for a 2-truck shop
This is the part I have a product in, so weigh it accordingly. Here's the decision as ServiceTitan's own users frame it. A contractor with "around 2500~ maintenance members" who said "Service Titan makes tracking, scheduling and automatic renewals very simple" was asked whether it's worth it for a shop with 50-100 members. His answer: "I wouldn't make the jump to service Titan until you've got at least four vans on the road with 300 to 500 maintenance agreements."27 A consultant who builds on ServiceTitan for clients: "ST becomes worth it at ~$2mil revenue or so."16 A 2-tech HVAC owner after his demo: "Per tech pricing on top of a long contract, it just doesn't make sense at our size."28
Run the numbers for a 2-truck shop with 150 agreements at $200 a year: $30,000 of membership revenue. Memberships need The Works, so take the upper end of the user-reported $250-500 per tech: ServiceTitan is roughly $800-1,000 a month, $9,600-12,000 a year, before onboarding and before anyone mentions Marketing Pro or card updating. Thirty to forty cents of every membership dollar goes to the platform. You do get dispatch, pricebook and reporting for that money, but you had dispatch already.
The other route is to keep the FSM you're on and add the piece it lacks. Deepsel runs the maintenance agreements beside Jobber or Housecall Pro: the agreement ledger (plan, tier, covered equipment, visits owed vs delivered, card on file, renewal date), renewals charged with retries and a text to the member when a card fails, and a seasonal reminder with your booking link so members book their own visits. Booked visits are written into Jobber as jobs on Pro; on Housecall Pro the reminder carries your own online-booking link, with native sync planned. There is no ServiceTitan integration: you import your member list from an export or a spreadsheet, Deepsel runs the agreements, and the office enters booked visits into the FSM as normal jobs.
| 2 trucks, 150 agreements | ServiceTitan The Works | Jobber Connect or HCP Essentials + Deepsel Starter |
|---|---|---|
| Software, per month | $800-1,000, top of the user-reported per-tech range15 | $228 ($149 FSM + $79 Deepsel), unlimited Deepsel users |
| Time to first billed renewal | Weeks of onboarding; six for one 3-tech shop14 | Import the sheet, set the plan, first reminder goes out |
| When a card fails | Invoice moves to Failed Payment for the office to work11 | Retries, card-updater check, text to the member |
| Automatic card updating | Additional charges, no AmEx13 | Included |
| Who books the spring and fall visits | The CSR, from the recurring service events list6 | The member, from a seasonal email (text on Pro) with your booking link |
| Visit owed when the plan year ends | Expires on the end date unless support enables the hold10 | You and the member are warned before it expires |
| Dispatch, pricebook, call recording, reporting | Yes, and it's the reason to buy ServiceTitan | Whatever your FSM does today; Deepsel doesn't touch it |
Read it both ways. If you're heading for four vans and 300 agreements in the next two years, the ServiceTitan module will be waiting and it's very good. If you're a 2-truck shop whose problem is that agreements lapse silently and cards fail without anyone noticing, that problem costs $79 a month to fix without changing anything your techs touch. Plans and the feature split are on our pricing page.

Does ServiceTitan have memberships?
Yes, on the top package. As of September 2026, "Customizable Memberships" is in the included list for The Works and in the not-included block for Starter and Essentials on ServiceTitan's pricing page.1 The module covers membership types with discounts, recurring service visits, renewals sold from the office or the tech's tablet, and recurring card billing. It's the most complete membership module in field service software, and it's priced per technician on a quote.
How much does the ServiceTitan membership module cost?
There's no separate price; memberships are a The Works feature, so you're pricing the top package, per technician. Users report $250-500 per tech per month across packages, with The Works at the top of that range; a 3-tech shop paid about $800 a month, a 6-tech shop pays $1,200, and a 4-tech plumbing shop was quoted about $1,700 before add-ons.15, 14, 17, 16 Membership Renewal Protection, the automatic card updater, carries additional charges.13 The breakdown is on the ServiceTitan pricing page.
How do membership renewals work in ServiceTitan?
Ongoing memberships bill on a schedule and never expire. Fixed memberships appear on the Expiring Memberships tab in Follow Up, two weeks out by default, where the office builds renewal estimates, calls, and converts or dismisses each one.7 Techs can sell a renewal task on an invoice. Renewing a membership and bulk renewal estimates both require account configuration.8
What are recurring services in ServiceTitan?
The visits included with a membership, such as a spring tune-up and a fall check. Each is a recurring service type with a frequency and an invoice template.2 ServiceTitan generates recurring service events up to 12 months ahead in Follow Up. The event date tells the office when to call; the visit is scheduled when someone books the event into a job.6
Can ServiceTitan track visits owed vs delivered?
Per event, yes. Each recurring service event has a status, and the Location Recurring Service With Invoice Template Details report lists members whose events are still Not Attempted.24 What it won't do by default is hold the membership open until the last visit is delivered; without that configuration, plans expire on the end date with visits still owed.10 How other tools handle the same ledger is in how to track HVAC maintenance agreements.
Can a 2-truck shop afford ServiceTitan for memberships?
ServiceTitan's own users say wait. The contractor running 2,500 members: "at least four vans on the road with 300 to 500 maintenance agreements."27 Memberships need The Works, so at the top of the reported $250-500 per tech a 2-truck shop pays roughly $800-1,000 a month plus onboarding. The same shop on Jobber Connect or Housecall Pro Essentials with Deepsel beside it pays $228 and keeps the FSM it knows.
What do small shops use for maintenance agreements if ServiceTitan is out of reach?
Most 1-4 truck shops stay on Jobber, Housecall Pro or Service Fusion and run the agreement side in a spreadsheet or a membership layer beside the FSM. Housecall Pro has a Service Plans module on its $299 Max tier (covered in Housecall Pro service plans); Jobber has no membership object at all (maintenance plans in Jobber). Deepsel adds the ledger, renewal billing with failed-payment handling, and seasonal booking reminders for $79 a month. The full comparison by shop size is here.
Can you export memberships from ServiceTitan?
In pieces. Customer search filtered by Member Status exports to Excel,25 the Customer Memberships report exports type, status, dates, next billing date and location,26 and the recurring service events table exports to CSV.6 Nothing ties members, visits owed, equipment and billing together in one file, and one owner leaving reported 75 minutes on hold trying to get help.23 The Customer Memberships report does record "Imported from Previous Software" as an activation method, so ServiceTitan expects members to arrive from somewhere else; it's leaving that's undocumented.
