Jobber recurring jobs, explained: setup, what you can change later, how they bill, and what they don't do for a maintenance agreement

  • Every step, limit and quote on this page comes from Jobber's own help center and pricing page, fetched on September 2, 2026, or from Jobber users on Reddit, with links at the bottom.
  • I build Deepsel, a maintenance-agreement tool that runs beside Jobber. That's relevant to exactly one section of this page, and it's labeled.

Jobber recurring jobs are jobs with a repeating visit schedule and a repeating invoice schedule, and every plan has them. They put the visits on your calendar and, on Connect and up, can charge a saved card. What they don't hold is the agreement: no plan price, no renewal, no count of visits owed against visits delivered.

That's the short version. The rest is the detail from Jobber's help center, checked today, with the seasonal-work trick most HVAC shops on Jobber never find.

Which Jobber plans include recurring jobs?

All four. Jobber's Core plan article, the cheapest tier at $29 a month billed annually, says you can "set up a job with either a recurring or one-off schedule" and create "an unlimited number of jobs."9, 11 The job type is free on every plan. What changes as you go up is what's wrapped around it:

  • Automatic payments (charging a saved card on the job's invoice schedule) "is available on the Connect plan," per Jobber's Connect article; the recurring-job article itself says "select plans."1, 10 Core's article lists Jobber Payments and instant payouts but not automatic payments.9
  • The recurring jobs report is "available on select plans."7
  • Automated visit reminders to clients by email and text are a Connect feature.10

Connect starts at $99 a month billed annually. Every tier, band and fee is on the Jobber pricing page; this page is about what the feature does once you have it.

How to set up a recurring job in Jobber

Jobber's model is job, then visits. The help center puts it this way: "a job is the overall scope of work and visits are each event on the calendar where you would go to a client's property to do the work. You can think of it like a pizza, where the overall project is the full pizza and the visits are the slices."3 A recurring job is the pizza with a repeat rule. Here's the setup from Jobber's "Create a Recurring Job" article:1

  1. Start the job. From the Create button, the schedule's More button, a client's profile, or Convert to Job on an approved quote. Add a title (internal; clients never see it) and pick the client.
  2. Pick the job type. Under Job Type, select the Recurring Job tab. This is the decision you can't undo later (more on that below).
  3. Set the schedule. Choose a Start Date ("the day the contract begins"), then start and end times or check Anytime for date-only visits. Click Assign to add team members, or leave visits unassigned for now. Job-level Checklists land on every visit.
  4. Choose how it repeats. Weekly, biweekly, monthly, or a custom schedule (weekly, monthly or annually, with multiple days, such as the 1st and 3rd Fridays). The other option is "As Needed We Won't Prompt You," which creates no visits at all so you can add them when the work comes up. Then set Ends after (a duration) or Ends on (a date).
  5. Set the billing schedule. In Billing & automatic payments, choose per visit (each visit's line items go on its invoice) or fixed price (the same amount per period, whatever the visit count). Then pick when to invoice: monthly on the last day, after each visit is completed, as needed with no reminders, once the job is closed, or a custom schedule.
  6. Turn on automatic payments, if the plan allows. Toggle it on; the client needs a stored card or bank account through Jobber Payments. If they don't have one, check Request a payment method on file and Jobber emails or texts them; automatic payments switch on the moment they add one.5
  7. Add line items and save. Up to 100 line items per job, then Save job.

The Jobber app builds the same job from the phone: pick a frequency from the Repeating drop-down, enter a Duration, and a Visit summary previews the visits before you save.14

One thing the repeat options don't offer is "twice a year." A custom schedule goes weekly, monthly or annually.1 For spring-and-fall work, Jobber's own documented route is the as-needed job plus a bulk visit tool, which I'll get to in the workaround section.

What you can and can't change after a recurring job is created

More than you'd expect, and one thing you can't touch. Every section of a job has a pencil icon and edits in place.2

Change the whole series. In the Scheduled visits section, Edit All Visits opens the start date, a Schedule later option, the times, whether and how often the visits repeat, the instructions, the team and the checklists, then applies them with Update Incomplete Visits. "Updates made here apply to all incomplete visits in the job."2 So yes, frequency can change. The cost is in the Visits article:

"Editing a job's schedule generates new visits with the new job details. If you have customized visit details like instructions, these will be overwritten by the newly generated visits."3

Jobber makes you tick "I understand" before it does it.3 If you've been noting filter sizes or gate codes on individual visits, copy them somewhere first.

Change one visit. Drag it on the schedule, resize it, or open Edit Visit. "Editing a visit will only change the details on that particular visit."3 When you reschedule one, Jobber offers to notify the client by text or email, and for recurring jobs "the notification prompt applies only to the individual visit you changed. Other visits in the series are not affected."3

Skip a visit. There's no skip button. Delete the visit from its More Actions menu, or on the new schedule drag it "from the calendar back to the unscheduled panel to remove their date and time" and park it.3 Add one back any time with New Visit on the job, or Duplicate from the schedule.3

End the job. More Actions, then Close Job. If visits are still open, Jobber offers two paths: "Complete past visits, remove future visits" or "Remove incomplete visits."4 The job moves to Requires Invoicing if a reminder is pending, otherwise to Archived, and a Reopen Job button brings it back.2 Nothing is deleted; notes stay with the archived job.4

Now the things you can't do, in Jobber's words:

"Once a job is created, the job type cannot be switched. For example, a one-off job cannot later be switched to a recurring job. It would need to be recreated instead."2

Jobs can't be merged either.2 And the bulk "Move dates" tool that shifts a batch of visits forward by the same number of days carries a note: "Only one-off jobs can be moved using this method."3 Across many jobs, edits are still one job at a time. A landscape company on r/landscaping in March 2025 hit exactly that when a crew lead went part time: "In Jobber that would look like going into each individual job (hundreds of them) and manually updating the assignee which is crazy time consuming and not feasible."16

How recurring jobs bill in Jobber

Two moving parts: the invoice schedule, which every plan has, and automatic payments, which charges the invoice for you on plans that include it.

Without automatic payments, the schedule you picked generates invoice reminders. A reminder puts the job into "Requires Invoicing" status, which is how you find everything due and batch-invoice it.6 Your office still creates and sends each invoice.

With automatic payments, Jobber skips the reminder. "Invoices are created immediately according to the billing schedule that appears on the job," the saved card or bank account is charged, and the client gets an emailed receipt with a link to the invoice in client hub.5 Three details that matter for a maintenance shop:

  • Date-based invoices go out at 9pm your time on the scheduled day, "to account for any services done during the day."5
  • Per-visit billing charges when a visit is marked complete, including when you close a job and complete its past visits: "If you have automatic payments turned on, completing visits will charge the client if you are invoicing per visit."2
  • "As needed, no reminders" doesn't work with automatic payments; picking it switches them off.5 Custom line items on one visit don't reach a fixed-price invoice.1

When a card fails, here's the whole documented behavior: "admin users will be notified by email and as well as with an activity feed notification. The invoice will also show a banner letting you know the automatic payment was unsuccessful." Then: "Because the invoice remains unpaid, you can reach out to the client to ask how they'd like to proceed."5 A new payment method the client provides is used for that invoice and going forward.5 There's no retry schedule in the article and no message to the client. When a card fails, nobody really has a system, and in Jobber the system is you reading the activity feed.

Recurring jobs vs a maintenance agreement in Jobber

A maintenance agreement is a different object from a schedule. It's a price the member paid, a plan year with an end, a number of visits owed, a discount they're entitled to, and the equipment it covers. Here's how a Jobber recurring job maps onto that, feature by feature:

What an agreement needs Jobber recurring job Where it lives instead
Jobs created on a schedule Yes, as real, assignable visits on a repeat rule1 Nowhere else needed
Plan price and card on file Partly: a fixed-price invoice schedule plus automatic payments on Connect and up5, 10 The plan tier and its price are a client tag and memory
Renewal date An end date. Home flags "Jobs ending within 30 days" to "see if the client would like to renew"13 The renewal itself (new price, new plan year, reset visits) is a new job or an edit, by hand
Visits owed vs delivered, per member No. The recurring jobs report shows "Completed visits" per job, never a count owed7 Spreadsheet
Member discount on repair invoices No Whoever writes the invoice remembers the tag
Failed-card retry No retry documented; email and activity-feed notice, banner on the invoice5 Your office, manually
Equipment or unit history No unit object; notes and custom fields on the client or job2 Spreadsheet or the tech's memory
Member books the visit themselves No. Online booking "schedules a one-off job on your calendar," not a visit on the recurring job12 A phone call, then you drag the visit onto a slot

None of that is a defect. Jobber's own examples for recurring jobs are "weekly cleaning, snow removal, monthly lawn mowing."2 The feature is built for a route, and it's a good one.

When recurring jobs are enough, and when they aren't

Enough: any work where the visit is the product and the bill follows the visit. Weekly lawn or pest routes on per-visit billing. A monthly commercial filter change at a fixed price, charged on the last day of the month. A snow contract on "as needed" with per-push invoicing.

Not enough: a prepaid residential plan. The member paid $200 in March for two tune-ups, spring and fall, plus a discount. The visits don't have fixed dates; the customer has to be reached and booked when the season opens. The plan renews in March at whatever next year's price is. If the fall visit slips through the cracks because a no-cool week pushed it off the board, the member still holds a visit you owe, and Jobber has no number that says so. That's the shape of work where shops start keeping a second list.

The tell is simple. If you could describe the job to Jobber as "every X," recurring jobs are the right tool. If you'd describe it as "they get two of these before March," you're describing an agreement.

The workaround shops on Jobber run

An HVAC owner on r/HVAC, recommending Jobber in August 2023, spelled out the standard move: "I don't believe Jobber has a section for signing up people for maintenance plans. However you can get around it by making their maintenance a 'recurring visit.'"15 Three years on, that's still the answer, and Jobber has since documented the best version of it under a different name. Its "snow removal workflow" is written for "any industry that delivers services as needed as part of a contract (such as irrigation startups, seasonal maintenance)."8 Applied to tune-ups:

  1. One recurring job per member, repeating "As needed." Start date is the day the plan starts, end date the day it ends; Jobber's advice is to make the duration "longer than you think it might need to be."8 Line items are the tune-up. No visits exist yet.
  2. Tag the client with the plan tier. Jobber suggests tags for "service type, contract tier, or specific equipment needed."8 Add a custom field for the renewal date while you're in the profile.
  3. Each spring and fall, bulk-create the visits. On the schedule, More, then Create New Visits. Filter by tag ("Gold," "Agreement"), by line item, or by "jobs with no incomplete visits before" a date, select all, set a start date and team, and click "Let's create some visits." Up to 100 jobs per batch.8 Every member who's due now has a visit on the board.
  4. Book the visits. The office calls or texts each member and drags the visit to a real slot. Jobber's automated visit reminders (Connect and up) confirm it.10
  5. Keep the ledger in a sheet. One row per agreement: plan, price, renewal date, visits owed, visits delivered, last visit, card status. The recurring jobs report exports to CSV with completed visits and schedule end date per job, a decent starting point.7

Step 3 is the part most shops miss, and it turns a member-by-member spring into a ten-minute batch. Steps 1, 2 and 5 are the same rig described in how to run maintenance plans in Jobber, with where each piece leaks. The sheet for step 5, with a visits-at-risk filter built in, is free here, and the five fields it needs are explained in how to track HVAC maintenance agreements.

Running the agreement ledger beside Jobber

This is the section I have a product in, so weigh it accordingly. Deepsel is agreement software that runs beside Jobber. It owns the record a recurring job can't hold and leaves scheduling, dispatch and invoicing in Jobber.

On Starter ($79 a month, unlimited users), you import members from a Jobber client export or the spreadsheet you're running today. Deepsel keeps the ledger (plan, price, renewal date, covered equipment, visits owed vs delivered per unit), charges renewals on the card on file with retries and a failed-payment flag, and each season emails every member who's due a reminder carrying your Jobber booking link or your office number. Your dispatcher creates the visit in Jobber the way they'd create any other. Pro ($159 a month, coming soon) adds customer and schedule sync with Jobber, so booked visits are written into your Jobber schedule, plus reminder texts with a self-serve booking link. No percentage is taken on membership revenue, and the trial is 14 days with no card. Plans are on the pricing page; the platform comparison is in best HVAC maintenance agreement software.

Frequently asked questions

What is a recurring job in Jobber?

One of Jobber's two job types. It's a job with multiple visits on a repeating schedule (weekly, biweekly, monthly, custom, or "as needed") and an invoicing schedule of its own, billed per visit or at a fixed price.1 Jobber's help center describes the job as the whole contract and each visit as one appointment on the calendar.3 The other type, a one-off job, has up to 20 visits and no repeating schedule.2

Which Jobber plan includes recurring jobs?

All of them. Jobber's Core plan article, checked September 2, 2026, says you can set up a job "with either a recurring or one-off schedule" and create "an unlimited number of jobs."9 What changes by plan is what surrounds the job: automatic payments on a saved card are listed on the Connect plan,10 and the recurring jobs report is on select plans.7 Prices by tier are on the Jobber pricing page.

How do I set up a recurring job in Jobber?

Create a job from the Create button, a client's profile, the schedule, or an approved quote, then select the Recurring Job tab under Job Type. Set a start date, visit times (or Anytime), the team, and how the job repeats: weekly, biweekly, monthly, a custom schedule, or "As Needed We Won't Prompt You" if you'll add visits later. Set when it ends, pick per-visit or fixed-price billing and an invoicing schedule, toggle automatic payments if the client has a saved card, add line items, and save.1

Can I change the frequency of a recurring job in Jobber after it's created?

Yes. From the job's Scheduled visits section, Edit All Visits lets you change the start date, times, whether and how often the visits repeat, instructions, team and checklists, and the changes apply to every incomplete visit.2 The catch, in Jobber's words: editing a job's schedule generates new visits, and customized visit details like instructions are overwritten.3 What you can't change is the job type; a one-off job can't become recurring or the reverse.2

How do I end or cancel a recurring job in Jobber?

Open the job, click More Actions, then Close Job. If there are incomplete visits, Jobber asks whether to complete past visits and remove future ones, or remove all incomplete visits.4 The job then moves to Requires Invoicing if a reminder is pending, or straight to Archived, and Reopen Job brings it back.2 To skip a single visit instead, delete that visit from its More Actions menu or drag it back to the unscheduled panel.3

Do Jobber recurring jobs bill automatically?

They can, on plans with automatic payments and only when the client has a card or bank account saved through Jobber Payments. Toggle automatic payments on in the job's billing section and Jobber creates the invoice on your schedule (after each visit, monthly on the last day, once the job closes, or a custom schedule), charges the saved method and emails the client a receipt.5 Without automatic payments, Jobber creates invoice reminders and your office sends each invoice.6

What happens when a client's card fails on a Jobber recurring job?

Per Jobber's Automatic Payments article, admin users are notified by email and in the activity feed, and the invoice shows a banner saying the payment was unsuccessful. The invoice stays unpaid, and Jobber's guidance is to reach out to the client and collect payment manually; a new payment method they provide is used for that invoice and going forward.5 The article describes no automatic retry and no message to the client.

Can Jobber recurring jobs run a maintenance agreement?

They handle the visit schedule and, with automatic payments, the billing. They don't hold the agreement itself: no plan price separate from the job, no renewal (only an end date, which Jobber's Home page flags 30 days out13), no count of visits owed against visits delivered per member, no member discount, and no equipment record. Shops on Jobber cover those with client tags, custom fields and a spreadsheet, as laid out above, or run an agreement ledger beside Jobber.
