Does Jobber support maintenance agreements? What works, what's missing, and the fix

No. Jobber has no membership object. No plan, no tier, no visits-owed count, no renewal that rolls over on its own, and the feature request has sat in Jobber's community for years.1 Shops fake it with recurring jobs and client tags, which puts renewals, card-on-file billing, member discounts and visit tracking back on the office. You don't have to switch FSMs to fix that. Keep Jobber for dispatch and invoicing and run the agreement book in Deepsel ($79/mo Starter, $159/mo Pro coming soon). Deepsel bills the memberships and books the tune-ups, and on Pro writes each booked visit into Jobber as a normal job.
Worth the longer answer, though, because Jobber is still the right FSM for most 1-4 truck shops. It's the cheapest of the big three (Core is $49/mo month-to-month, $29/mo prepaid annually for a solo operator; every plan and fee is in the Jobber pricing breakdown)2 and the only one with a free, open API.3 The question is what happens to a 100-agreement book inside it.

The workaround is well documented because so many shops run it. From r/HVAC: "I don't believe Jobber has a section for signing up people for maintenance plans. However you can get around it by making their maintenance a 'recurring visit.'"4 In practice the full rig is four pieces:
- A recurring job per member covers the visits. Repeats run weekly, biweekly, monthly or custom, and there's an "As Needed We Won't Prompt You" mode for plans where visits get scheduled later.5
- A client tag marks the plan tier ("Gold Member," "Comfort Club").
- A custom field holds the renewal date so someone can filter for who's coming due.
- A recurring invoice handles the billing if the member pays monthly or annually on a card.
A shop on r/ProHVACR describes the same setup for PM contracts: recurring jobs plus asset notes.6 It holds together at 25 agreements. The trade benchmark is about 250 agreements per $1 million of service revenue,7 so a healthy two-truck shop is carrying 150 or more of these rigs. That's where it comes apart. One user who moved a bigger book onto it: "Jobber was an awful move for us... Scheduling for recurring job is nightmare."8 If you're going to run the rig anyway, the click-by-click build, with where each piece leaks, is in how to run maintenance plans in Jobber.
What breaks: renewals, discounts, visits owed, equipment records
Renewals get asked for, so half of them die. There's no membership, so there's nothing to auto-renew. The custom-field date tells the office who to chase, and the chase is a phone call or an emailed invoice. Renewals that require the customer to act convert at 40-50%. When a card on file auto-renews with proper notice, that jumps past 80%,9 and the best operators on monthly auto-billing clear 90-95%.10 On 300 agreements at $225 a year, the swing is worth about $20,000. Same customers. Different billing mechanics.
Discounts run on memory. The 10-15% member discount lives in the tag. Whether it lands on an invoice depends on whoever builds the invoice noticing the tag, every time, including on the emergency call at 7pm.
Nobody knows what's owed. A recurring job has no owed-vs-delivered count. Say the spring visit gets rescheduled off the board in June and never re-added. Jobber has no number that says this member paid for two visits and got one, so you find out when the member calls in October and the office spends twenty minutes digging through job records to answer them.
Equipment records are custom fields. There's no unit object, so model, serial and filter sizes live in notes, filed per client rather than per system. Nobody can answer "which units are covered on this plan, and which one is due?"
None of this is a Jobber bug. This is what a membership program looks like when it runs on objects built for one-off jobs. Housecall Pro users hit a different version of the same wall: plans exist there, but they sit behind the $299/mo Max tier and have documented holes of their own. That story is in Housecall Pro Service Plans: limits, cost and alternatives.
The Jobber + Deepsel setup
We built Deepsel to be the membership object Jobber doesn't have, running beside it. Jobber keeps dispatch, quoting, invoicing and the schedule. Deepsel keeps the ledger: plan, tier, price, the equipment covered (nameplate photo from the tech's phone), the card on file, and visits owed vs delivered per unit. There are two ways to connect the two, depending on the plan:
- On Starter ($79/mo, live today), Deepsel runs from an import. Export your client list from Jobber, or upload the spreadsheet you're running now, and Deepsel imports it, so there's no re-typing. Each season it emails every member who's due a reminder that carries your Jobber online-booking link or your office number. When a member books, your office creates the job in Jobber as usual.
- On Pro ($159/mo, coming soon), the sync is native and runs through Jobber's own API. Clients come from Jobber, so there's no second address book. Reminders go out by text as well as email, with a self-serve booking link. When a member picks a slot, Deepsel re-checks your Jobber calendar for conflicts right before writing, then creates the job in Jobber. Dispatch sees it like any other job and the techs change nothing.
- Nothing is fire-and-forget. On Pro, a reconciliation digest shows what Deepsel wrote and what changed on the Jobber side, so the two systems never quietly drift.
- Billing happens in Deepsel, on either plan. Renewals auto-charge the card on file with retries, a card updater, and a flag to you when a payment fails. Never a silent lapse. Visit-expiry warnings fire before a paid visit can run out with the plan year.
One quirk worth knowing about the Pro sync: Jobber stamps the connected app's name as the client's Lead Source, permanently (harmless, but you'll see it). And to be plain about scope, Deepsel is not an FSM. It won't quote a job or dispatch a truck, and it doesn't touch payroll. If Jobber ever ships a real membership object, the workaround this page describes stops being necessary. Until then the ledger has to live somewhere, and at $10-15 per agreement per year in office admin time,11 a 150-agreement book spends $1,500-2,250 a year running the manual version. Starter costs $948.
Jobber vs Housecall Pro vs ServiceTitan for maintenance plans
The short version, for the three FSMs this decision usually comes down to:
| Jobber | Housecall Pro | ServiceTitan | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Membership object | None (recurring jobs + tags) | Service Plans, Max tier only ($299/mo)12 | Yes, full module |
| Auto-billing + dunning | Recurring invoices; no plan-aware dunning | Card on file; billing frequency and card frozen once active | Card on file; no failed-payment alerts reported |
| Self-serve tune-up booking | Client Hub link (Connect $139/mo and up) | HCP booking link, all plans | Scheduling Pro add-on |
| Price | Core $49/mo | Basic $59 → Max $299/mo | $250-500/tech/mo13 |
| Verdict for plans | Best value FSM; agreements need a layer beside it | Use Plans if on Max anyway; don't upgrade for them | The answer above 4 trucks and 300+ agreements |

Frequently asked questions
Can Jobber auto-bill a monthly membership?
The charge itself, yes: set up a recurring invoice with automatic payments and Jobber charges the card on file each month. What's missing is everything around the charge. A declined card doesn't retry and nobody asks the member for a new one; the invoice sits unpaid while the visits keep getting delivered, and the plan status never changes. Membership billing needs dunning tied to the plan, and Jobber's invoices don't know the plan exists.
Can Jobber text members a booking link for their tune-up?
Jobber's Client Hub booking link (clienthub.getjobber.com/booking/...) shows real availability and books straight onto your calendar, on Connect ($139/mo) and up. What Jobber won't do is send it. There's no campaign that finds every member due a spring tune-up and texts them the link, so the office still builds that list by hand each season. Deepsel runs that send automatically and escalates members who don't respond.
Does Jobber track equipment per property?
Properties, yes. A client can have multiple addresses with separate job histories. Equipment, no. There's no unit record, so model, serial and filter sizes live in custom fields or job notes, and nothing connects a specific condenser to the visits it's owed. Deepsel keeps a per-unit record (nameplate photo from the tech's phone) with visits owed vs delivered on each unit, and writes the booked visit into Jobber as a normal job.
